Have you ever been discriminated against in the PRS?

Have you (or anyone you know) ever been, or suspected that you were, discriminated against because of your:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage and civil partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Race
  • Religion and belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation???

Under the Eqality Act 2010 people providing services, including landlords and letting agents, are not allowed to discriminate, harass or victimise another person because of any of the protected characteristics above.

This includes indirect discrimination (e.g. putting in place a rule or policy or way of doing things that has a worse impact on someone with a protected characteristic than someone without one, when this cannot be objectively justified).

Following a few high profile cases involving discrimination in the PRS in recent years, I’d be keen to hear about your experiences and views.

Do you think a ban on “no dss” ads would make a difference for example?

Hundreds of you have viewed last week’s post on discrimination so I thought this article might be of interest too: https://www.thenational.scot/news/17587711.scots-law-firm-to-fight-landlords-who-ban-tenants-on-benefits/
